2x24HR Recovery (March 2014)

March 10th and today, March 31st are the two days this month that I have taken a full day off from workouts.

When you get used to double training sessions everyday, taking a full day off can sometimes seem difficult.

I can question myself like:

Do I really need a day off? Wouldn’t it be better if I just do an easy workout?

But in reality, a break from the norm, is exactly what my body needs. Without proper recovery time, the potential for injury poses a much greater risk.

And besides the physical aspect of recovery, I find that a full day off gives my mind a reboot.

After today, I’ll be recalibrated, reset and ready for another long training cycle.

February 2014 Training Totals

Just like January, it was another freezing and snowy month of indoor training. February featured my first race of 2014, with a second place finish at the Old Bethpage 5K, followed by wattage tests on the trainer, resulting in a new Functional Threshold Power. Without a doubt, this month went very smoothly and according to plan.

Month – February
Duration – 46:55:08
Distance – 597.43 miles [-10.77%]
HR (avg) – 143.0 bpm [+3.62%]
TSS – 1780 [-1.28%]
kJ – 11502 [+19.10%]

Just by comparing these totals from the January report, I trained slightly less, but with greater intensity. But what we don’t see in this data is that I’ve been in the pool much more 😉

Off to March!

Snow & Track

What do you do when you have a track workout but the track is covered in 6 inches of snow? You shovel it.

Thanks to the guys at Queens College, especially Joe & Max, we were able to clear out a full lane in just over two hours.

Then I went ahead and did 2k repeats with 80 seconds rest.

This was fun 🙂

Have you ever gone out of your way to get a workout done?
