When I first got the call about the opportunity to race The Leadville 100 MTB, I immediately jumped at my race calendar to find out if I could pencil it in. I saw that it was only 13 days after IRONMAN Lake Placid, so proper recovery after my “A” race would be essential to bounce back and do Leadville.
The game plan:
1. Race Ironman Lake Placid (7/27/14)
2. Recover as fast and efficiently as possible
3. Practice some single track mountain biking to refresh my muscle memory of riding upright
4. Race the Leadville 100 MTB (8/9/14)
IRONMAN Lake Placid proved to be a successful day in the office. My eyes were set on a Kona qualifying spot and with a 2nd place finish in the M18-24 age group, I was able to walk away with my spot. And after 8 months of steady training without any extended rest days, I knew that the two weeks after Lake Placid should be filled with rest and recovery. In order to properly recover from my ironman finish, a staple of my diet consisted of Low Fat Chocolate Milk!

Without proper nutrition, I don’t think my body would be able to rebound so quickly from Ironman Lake Placid. My body was sore for two days after Ironman, and since then, I feel like I’ll be 100% fresh for Leadville.
So there it is…I’m recovered, checked in and ready. I can’t wait to soak in every minute of The Leadville 100!
