At a Glance
February 2014 training totals: another cold, snowy month of mostly indoor work that went right on plan — slightly less volume than January but higher intensity, a 2nd-place 5K, a new FTP, and much more time in the pool.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Duration: 46:55:08; Distance: 597.43 miles (-10.77%)
- Average HR: 143 bpm (+3.62%); Work: 11,502 kJ (+19.10%)
- Set a new Functional Threshold Power in trainer wattage tests
- 2nd place at the Old Bethpage 5K — his first race of 2014
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- Intensity over volume: lower mileage but higher energy output reflects a harder training focus
- Numbers don’t tell all: the totals hide a big increase in swim time
- A new FTP means progress: testing confirms fitness is trending the right way
- Stick to the plan: a smooth, on-target month builds momentum into spring
Just like January, it was another freezing and snowy month of indoor training. February featured my first race of 2014, with a second place finish at the Old Bethpage 5K, followed by wattage tests on the trainer, resulting in a new Functional Threshold Power. Without a doubt, this month went very smoothly and according to plan.
Month – February
- Duration – 46:55:08
- Distance – 597.43 miles [-10.77%]
- HR (avg) – 143.0 bpm [+3.62%]
- TSS – 1780 [-1.28%]
- kJ – 11502 [+19.10%]
Just by comparing these totals from the January report, I trained slightly less, but with greater intensity. But what we don’t see in this data is that I’ve been in the pool much more 😉
