Newton Running Elite Review

At a Glance

A hands-on review of the Newton Running Elite — a light, responsive racing shoe built on a new upper with the Distance outsole. After weeks of long and tempo runs, I plan to train and race in them for the season.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Reviews the Newton Elite, one of the brand’s lightest models
  • New upper platform paired with the light, responsive Distance outsole
  • Broken in over three weeks of tempo and long runs
  • Noticeably more responsive than his everyday Newton Gravity

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Experience informs the verdict: two years in Newtons and the Ambassador Program give the review real depth
  • Biomechanics matter: shoe choice is treated as a serious part of daily training
  • Match shoe to purpose: the light, responsive Elite suits tempo and racing over easy miles
  • Race-ready: he plans to both train and race in the Elite this season

What a better way to celebrate the new year than breaking in new kicks!

I’ve been running in Newton running shoes for the past 2 years now, and I’ve had to privilege of trying their entire line of shoes. Back in October 2012, I attended the Ambassador Program that filled me with a wealth of running knowledge. Since then, I take biomechanics very seriously in my daily training. Let’s get to their newest shoe – the Elite.

The Elite is built on an entirely new upper platform while integrating the light and responsive outsole of the Distance model. The shoe is definitely one of the lightest models. After a few long runs and three weeks of tempo running, I have gotten used to the feeling of the shoe. It’s much more responsive than the Gravity, which I normally log most of my runs in.

As the running and triathlon season comes closer, I will be training and definitely racing in the Newton Elites!

Check out a couple of snapshots of the shoe.
