Indoor Cycling Training, Trainer Road

The polar vortex is in full swing and it’s pretty miserable for training these past couple of weeks. The only time I’m on the roads is during the run and whenever I can get my mountain bike out for a quick spin on the snow. A buddy of mine recommended Trainer Road to me a couple years ago and the program is pretty simple. All you need is a computer, ANT+ USB stick, an indoor trainer, and a speed and cadence monitor on the bike. When set up properly, all you have to worry about is getting the workout done! (And hitting wattage goals)

If the sun is out, I sometimes keep the garage door open for some extra ventilation.
If the sun is out, I sometimes keep the garage door open for some extra ventilation. This also happened to be the time I used both my Macbook and iPad during a workout. Don’t judge! 🙂

My cycling coach creates workouts for me but this program still provides assistance in a way that it doubles as an onboard display, showing my current wattage, without me having to squint down to look at my Garmin screen, which usually fogs up anyway. (I train in an unheated garage, so condensation builds up quite easily.)

So yeah! If you’re stuck indoors because of hazardous weather, check out Trainer Road.
