  • Goal: upgrade from Category 5 to Category 4
  • Racing with the Mineola Bicycle Club
  • Debut standalone cycling race: Tour of Battenkill (April 4–5)

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • New discipline, new goals: a cycling license opens the door to dedicated bike racing beyond triathlon
  • Category upgrades take starts: moving from Cat 5 to Cat 4 requires racing and results
  • Team racing adds fun: competing with clubmates is a big part of the motivation
  • Pick a target event — Battenkill gives the season a concrete first goal

I will be doing a handful of cycling races in 2014. One reason is to upgrade my status from a Category 5 to a Category 4. And another reason is to have fun while racing with my teammates from Mineola Bicycle Club. Our next big race is the Tour of Battenkill on April 4&5. That’ll be my debut (stand alone) cycling race.
